Balance of payments deficit put at 4.68 mln euros Jan through Nov

Romania's current account deficit dropped by 69.4 percent, to 4.681 million euros in 11 months last year compared to the same period of 2008, National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced on Friday.
'Over January 1 - November 30, 2009 the current account of the balance of payments reported a deficit of 4,681 million euros, down by 69.4 percent year-on-year. Trade balance deficit had a decisive influence on the reduction of the current account balance, which totaled 5,973 million euros, down by 66.5 percent against January-November 2008,' reads a BNR release.
The current account deficit was 81.7 percent financed through direct investments of non-residents in Romania, which amounted to 3.826 billion euros (compared to 8.642 billion euros over January-November 2008), out of which participations to the capital (including reinvested profit) totaled 2.053 billion euros (compared to 4.660 billion euros), while intra-group loans stood at 1.773 billion euros (against 3.982 billion euros).
Medium and long-term external debt reached 63.366 billion euros (80.7 percent of the total external debt) on November 30, 2009, up by 23.2 percent against December 31, 2008.
The short-term external debt stood at 15.138 billion euros (19.3 percent of the total external debt) on November 30, 2009, down by 26.5 percent versus December 31,2008.
The medium- and long-term external debt service rate reached 30.6 percent over January 1 - November 30, compared to 30.7 percent in 2008.
The coverage rate was 8.8 months of imports of goods and services on November 30, 2009, from 5.6 months on December 31, 2008.
