ACTMedia - 16 Februarie 2010
The disinflation process will be resumed in February, although the annual rate of inflation increased in January at 5.2% as the prices in tobacco increased – 4.74% as it was at the end of 2009, Adrian Vasilescu, the adviser of the BNR governor said.
BNR expected a higher inflation in January, but the disinflation process will be resumed in February' Adrian Vasilescu stated for Wall-Street.
The inflation exceeded the analysts' expectations in January, going from 5.2% from 4.74% in December as a result of the increase in price of tobacco, electricity and fuel, according to the data published by the National Institute of Statistics. « Half of the increase in inflation recorded in January comes from the evolution of tobacco prices » Adrian Vasilescu said.
As regards the evolution of the Romanian economy, the BNR governor adivser considers that we could go out of the recession starting with quarter 2 of 2010 and ' we could expect that at the level of 2010 the economy to be on the plus'. Vasilescu added that it remains to be seen if the advance of the economy in 2010 will be 1% or it will be 3%.
