Investments and tourism promotion, Romania's goals at Shanghai World Expo

Romania wishes to promote economy, to identify investment opportunities and to attract tourists through events organized on the occasion of The Shanghai World Expo, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
Events set to take place in Romania's pavilion throughout the world fair, to start in May, were discussed on Wednesday, March 3, at MAE, during the inter-ministerial meeting of the organizing Commission for Romania's participation in Shanghai World Expo.
The participants convened to organize the presentation and economic and commercial promotion events, investment opportunities, cultural events, tourist promotion actions or scientific cooperation activities under the form of seminars, mini-exhibitions or theme weeks dedicated to certain industries.
The meeting was held under the coordination of MAE under-secretary of state Ferdinand Nagy, general commissioner of the Romanian section and reunited, as a first, governmental representatives of the involved institutions in this event.
Attending the meeting were representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment, Ministry of Public Finance, Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport, Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
As well, the Rules of the Commission organizing Romania's participation in EXPO 2010 Shanghai, China, were adopted in the new ministerial format resulted from the re-organization of the public institutions represented in this commission.
The following commission meeting is set at the beginning of April.
At present, Romania's pavilion is finalized in a proportion of 90 percent and, in March and April, audio-video-lights-multimedia equipment will be installed and the infrastructure and equipment will be tested.
Shanghai city was elected to host the World Expo 2010 on the occasion of the 132nd Session of the General Assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) on Dec. 13 2002. China has become the first developing country hosting a World Expo.
The World Expo duration is 184 days, over the period May 1 through Oct. 31, 2010.
The theme of Expo 2010 is 'Better City, Better Life,' representing the common wish of the whole humankind for a better living in future urban environments.
Romania's pavilion is structured around the 'Green City' concept, having the form of a green 'apple' and bearing the logo 'Greenopolis', representing a declaration on the importance of solutions on which a healthy life style, sustained development and knowledge are based.
Romania has already been invited to the World Expo 2012, to be hosted by South Korea, where it could stake on tourist and wine-growing sectors, as Lee Joon-hee, the expo commissioner suggested, who recently paid a working visit to Romania.
