MFP sells T-bills 1.33 bln lei worth

Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) attracted on Monday more than 1.332 billion lei (1 euro = 4.09 lei) following an issue of discount T-bills, placed on auction through Romania's National Bank (BNR).
The T-bills have a six-month maturity and the average profitability rate, when they were adjudicated, stood at 6.73 percent. The average level of discount rate stood at 6.8 percent.
Total issue value is one billion lei and total demand from the 13 banks participating in the auction was 4.09 billion lei.
Bidding offers were submitted by 13 primary dealers - Alpha Bank Romania, BRD - Groupe Societe Generale, Commercial Bank Carpatica (BCC), Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), Transilvania Bank, Bancpost, CEC Bank, Citibank Romania, ING, MKB Romexterra, Raiffeisen Bank, RBS Bank Romania and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
MFP reduced the number of auctions of government securities in March, from six, according to the initial timetable, to five and wants to gather four billion lei from the market following T-bills and government bonds issuance.
On March 15 a discount T-bills auction will be organized with one-year maturity, in value of one billion lei. The fourth auction is to take place on March 18, for a bonds issue with three-year maturity in the value of 500 million lei and the last auction this month is set for March 22, for T-bills with one-year maturity in value of 900 million lei.
In the first two months of 2010, MFP borrowed from the domestic market 8.91 billion lei after, in 2009, it attracted almost 65 billion lei.
Recently, Romania was transferred two IMF tranches in value of 2.45 billion euros and mid-March it is going to also receive a one billion euros tranche from the European Commission.
At the same time, MFP announced it was to launch on foreign market, in the first quarter, an issue of Euro-bonds in the value of one billion euros.
The budget deficit target for this year-end is 5.9 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.
