RomCard processing centre is being sold
Agerpres - 12 Martie 2010
RomCard, the oldest player on the local card transactions processing market, owned by the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), the Romanian Development Bank (BRD), Raiffeisen and UniCredit Tiriac, is currently under selling procedure, Ziarul Financiar daily writes on Friday, quoting sources on the money market.
'This is not a basic activity for a bank and that is why the decision to sell the company was made. We intend to find a buyer that can keep the same quality of services and for this reason we are not rushing in the process,' sources among RomCard shareholders told daily Ziarul Financiar.
The BCR Group controls 40 percent of the company's shares, through BCR and Financiara SA, each owning stocks amounting to 20 percent of the share capital. Likewise, the other three banks hold equal stocks of 20 percent of the share capital.
'The company had a substantial profit every year, and there are still development prospects in this field,' said managing director of RomCard Marian Mitroi, who did not want to comment on the company being sold.
At present, RomCard has exclusiveness in the field of e-commerce type (on-line traders card payment) transaction processing, being the sole entity owning 3D-Secure certification on behalf of Visa and MasterCard.
The company cooperates with 11 banks in the e-commerce zone. Likewise, it has exclusiveness in the anti-fraud fighting area, managing the information databases for banks.
