Banks net profit - 261 mln lei, in February

Net profit at the level of the Romanian banking sector stood at 261 million lei in February 2010, announced on Wednesday head of Financial stability division with Romania's National Bank Ion Dragulin, in a seminar on economic evolution.
'Profitability went beyond the difficult levels in the first half of 2009. Net profit at the level of the Romanian banking sector rose to 261 million lei in February 2010', said Ion Dragulin.He added that, as regards the assets, the Romanian banking sector exposure to the governmental sector increased to the disadvantage of the corporate and population credit.
'On the assets side, the Romanian banking sector exposure to the governmental sector increased at the expense of the loans to the corporate sector and the population. The credit volume to companies and population remained at 2008 level. At liabilities level the banks turned toward the mobilization of internal resources', noted Dragulin.
BNR representative appreciated that a series of unfavorable changes affected the portfolios quality.'The quality of portfolio suffered unfavorable changes as regards the exposure to the corporate sector and the population', emphasized Ion Dragulin. As well, he stressed that the local financing is viewed as better than the foreign one, but large deposits mobility represents a risk factor.
