BNR benchmark rate to go down to 5.5 - 6 pct by year-end (RBS)
ACTMedia - 6 Aprilie 2010
A level of Romania's National Bank (BNR) benchmark rate of 5.5-6 percent by this year-end is plausible, under conditions in which the Central Bank estimates an annual inflation of 3.5 percent, in RBS Bank analysts opinion.
'Our inflation outlook does not differ significantly from the Central Bank estimation. According to a basic scenario, the annual inflation will range between 3.5 and 3.6 percent and, according to a more pessimistic one, it might climb to 4 percent. But we do not think that the Central Bank will lower the benchmark rate below 5.5 percent because it has proved it is in favor of some rate reductions in a cautious manner, so that it is not forced to get back to previously adopted decisions. An inflationary pressures could appear anew in 2011', says RBS in its monthly report.
The National Bank proceeded on Monday to a new cut in the reference rate, with effect starting March 30, to 6.5 percent per year from 7 percent the previous level.
