Cross-border cooperation programme between Romania and Serbia, up to 20 mln euros

Financial allocations for the period 2010-2011 for Romania-Republic of Serbia Cross-border cooperation programme are up to 19.348 million euros, the revised form of this programe being approved on Wednesday by the Government, informs a release of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism.
The highest part of funds was received from the European Commission and the programme was revised subsequently. Of the total of the earmarked amount 16.44 million euros represent the European Union contribution, through the the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and 2.9 million euros - national public co-financing from the partner states.
The programme addresses to the cooperation in the Romanian-Serbian cross-border zone, respectively the counties of Timis, Caras-Severin and Mehedinti (southwestern Romania) and to the districts of Severno-Banatski, Srednje-Banatski, Juzno-Banatski, Branicevski and Borski from the Republic of Serbia.
The programme finances projects on economic and social development, environment protection and preparations for emergency situations, actions of the local communities for the development of civil society, services providing to communities in the border zone, educational, cultural exchanges, including in the field of sports, as well as the intensification of the social and cultural integration of the border regions.
