Romanian-Indian economic forum scouts for investment opportunities
ACTMedia - 12 Aprilie 2010
Energy, use of renewable resources, the industry of pharmaceuticals, information technology, textiles and agriculture are fields that captured the interest of Indian investors attending a Romanian-Indian economic forum organized on Friday on the occasion of the visit to Bucharest of Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur.
According to a release of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA), the Indian official discussed with MECMA Secretary of State Maria Parcalabescu about the anti-crisis measures adopted by the governments of the two countries, as well as possibilities to intensify steps by the two states' institutions with competence in foreign trade to enhance bilateral trade exchanges and initiate investments in productive sectors of Romanian economy.
During the forum, Maria Parcalabescu delivered an address on the current situation of Romanian economy, highlighting both the macroeconomic elements registered in 2009, and this year's outlooks and expectations. The Romanian official also presented the export promotion programs run by MECMA and stressed the importance of using the EU structural funds managed by MECMA. Ways for Indian investors and their Romanian partners to access such non-reimbursable financing schemes were also analyzed.
Reviewing the evolution of Romanian-Indian bilateral relations, Maria Parcalabescu cast a light on the comparative advantages offered to foreign investors and suggested the areas of interest for the Romanian authorities (energy, use of renewable energy resources, pharmaceuticals, the information technology, textiles, agriculture) which - as the MECMA release states - aroused genuine interest among the participants.
According to Agerpres, the Indian companies represented in the economic delegation to Bucharest included: Ranbaxy (pharmaceuticals), The Bird Group, HCL Infosystems Ltd., Polaris Software Lab. Ltd. (information technology), Vectra Group (aviation, engineering, material handling and building equipment, automotive, information technology), AKSH Opti Fiber (fibre optic, cables and poles), Moser Baer (research and production of solar energy equipment), M/S Meenu Creations (textiles), GDPA Fastners (mechanical equipment), Eximbank India (finance).
