Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi wants to organize Romanian-Austrian business forum

Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi said on Tuesday during a meeting he had in Vienna with his Austrian counterpart Michael Spindelegger that he wanted to organize a Romanian-Austrian business forum in which Austrian businessmen should personally testify to the success they had on the Romanian market.
According to a release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) , the Romanian chief diplomat said during the Vienna meeting that they aimed at the long-term consolidation of the economic partnership between Romania and Austria, considering the fact that Austria came second as regards the level of foreign investments in Romania.
Teodor Baconschi was on a working visit to Vienna on Tuesday, an occasion on which he held a number of talks with his Austrian counterpart, the subjects dealt with referring to the priority fields of bilateral and regional cooperation, with emphasis on the cooperation strategy in the Danube basin.
The Romanian Minister made it clear that Romania and Austria in their capacity as joint initiators of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region were 'stability anchors in this part of the continent.'
Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria Michael Spindelegger made it clear that his country sensed Romania as a 'bridge head' in the Black Sea region, a priority of the Austrian foreign policy.
Spindelegger emphasized the special importance attached to the Danube region and made it clear that he wanted Austrian Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, to get involved in the development of the project so that the Danube strategy should be an important chapter in the European regional policy.
The agenda of the talks between the two politicians also included the priority fields of bilateral cooperation and the European ones, among which mention should be made of the energy security, the European prospect of the states in the Western Balkans.
Another subject dealt with by the two officials was the support given by Romania and Austria to promoting the Black Sea Synergy and the Eastern Partnership in the context of the steps taken for creating the complementary character of the two initiatives. Emphasis was also laid on aspects referring to the continuation of the EU enlargement.
The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that he wanted people to negotiate for an agreement on cooperation in education, culture and science (the current one expires this year) that should bring about the intensification of the Romanian-Austrian cultural dialogue.
During his visit to Vienna the Romanian chief diplomat unveiled an homage-paying plaque in memory of the great Romanian composer George Enescu. The plaque was attached to the frontispiece of the house where the Romanian musician lived in Vienna at the time of his violin studies, between 1888 and 1894.
According to MAE, the visit paid by the Romanian Minister to Vienna also included a meeting with Barbara Prammer, Speaker of the lower chamber of the Austrian Parliament, as well as a visit to the Klosterneuburg Monastery, an institution with which Romania's Embassy in Vienna and the Cultural Institute have a cultural partnership.
