Alenia Aeronautica, interested in cooperating with Romaero and Aerostar
ACTMedia - 15 Aprilie 2010
Alenia Aeronautica, the company that has already shipped the first two aircraft military transport C-27J Spartan, is ready to invest, under the agreement it has with the Romanian state, in units in Romania, potential partners being Romaero and Aerostar Bacau, the company's deputy general manager, Giuseppe Giordo, on Tuesday said.
'Based on the offset agreement, which stipulates investments are going to be carried out in Romania under the same aforementioned contract, we are interested in the maintenance, logistics and engineering fields and at present we are discussing with potential partners - Romaero, Aerostar Bacau. It was not very hard for us to make the list, since there are not so many companies operating in this area in Romania,' said Giordo.
Alenia Aeronautica (based in Italy) has delivered two of the seven military transport aircraft C-27J Spartan contracted by the Romanian state, following to deliver soon the third. The contract is worth 216 million euros.
'We wanted to prove that we do observe the contract with the Romanian state and the best way to show this was to deliver the machines. Two of the seven units are already in Bucharest, with our technical team to remain here to help the Romanian Air Forces take them over,' said the representative of Alenia Aeronautica.
Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company, has delivered two of the seven tactical transport aircraft C-27J Spartan ordered by the Romanian state back in December 2007.
The two C-27J Spartan, with this model to replace the existing Antonov, on Monday, April 12, have landed at the 90th Airlift Base from Otopeni Airport in Bucharest, where there took place a ceremony on this occasion. The aicraft will be put into service immediately, with a complex process of advanced training of crews and technical staff in Romania to begin, together with the integration, adjustment and testing of specific military systems.
Alenia Aeronautica will provide full support and logistics to its customer, it will provide spare parts, aircraft maintenance equipment, it will ensure the advanced training of the pilots (including of the maintenance staff), as well as technical documentation.
The new C-27J will be operated by the Romanian Air Force to transport troops, supplies and drugs for medical evacuation (Medevac), to launch paratroopers, for search and rescue mission and to supply logistics and humanitarian assistance.
The C-27J is a twin-engine turbine-powered airplane, equipped with cutting-edge technology in avionics, propulsion system and other systems on board. The plane is distinguished by excellent operational flexibility and unique features for interoperability of high-class air transport of the air forces of several NATO countries, due to the large cross-section of the cabin, at NATO standards.
Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Morocco (the first non-NATO customer) and the U.S. operated this plane. It was also selected by Slovakia.
C-27J's predecessor is G.222, still operational in several countries, including: the Nigerian Air Force, the Royal Thai Air Force, Ejercito Argentino, the U.S. State Department, the Italian Air Force (VS war electronic version), due to the efficiency of the logistic support provided by Alenia Aeronautica.
Alenia Aeronautica signed, in September 2008, a contract with the U.S. Air Force (USAF) for 18 G.222 upgraded tactical transport planes, which will become available again equipping the Afghan Air Force (National Army Air Corps in Afghanistan - ANAAC).
