Mihai Tanasescu: Romania’s economic growth will be 0.8% in 2010
ACTMedia - 16 Aprilie 2010
Romania's economic growth for 2010 was reviewed as dropping to 0.8%. Now the most important thing is to observed the budget deficit target established with the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund for 2010' said Mihai Tanasescu, Romania's representative with IMF and former finance minister.
He pointed out that the drop will have repercussions on budget incomes. Policies will be adopted so that Romania could register a realistic decrease of budget deficit and an acceleration of reforms in the field of public expenditures to set up a broader fiscal area for investment expenses.
'We need investment expenses and attracting more European funds. The acceleration of reforms could generate the money needed for the economy from public investments,' he added. The Parliamentary suggestion to increase the pension point by 45% should be considered realistically. 'We should consider how much the economy can bear', the former minister said. 'If we start from the fact that there are more pensioners who receive than employees who work, we will see that the deficit of the pension fund accumulates yearly and it should be covered from taxes we all pay,' Tanasescu explained.
