Radu Gratian Ghetea : Greek-owned banks operating in Romania encounter no problems
ACTMedia - 23 Aprilie 2010
None of the Greek-owned banks operating in Romania has problems, the chairman of the Romanian Banks Association (RBA) Radu Gratian Ghetea said on Thursday.
'I approve of what the National Bank says that the Greek-owned banks in Romania have no weakness whatsoever', Ghetea told a news conference after the RBA General Meeting. In a separate development, Ghetea stressed the new regulation issued by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) regarding the updating of the bank clients' personal data will not affect the accounts, since the data updating is being conducted as the clients come to the bank for operations. According to the BNR regulation, the banks should have blocked the accounts of the clients that fail to update their personal data.
On the recent attacks on several banks, Ghetea said that beefing up security at the bank units will not solve the problem. Raiffesen Bank president Steven Van Groningen repeatedly slammed the system used in Romania, where the banks employ security staff, arguing it raises the costs for the banks very much.
