Ministry of Transport will allocate between 680 and 780 million lei for the construction of Timisoara - Lugoj Motorway, according to an announcement made by the National Roads Company. (1 euro=4.1 lei)
The project provides the drafting and construction of a motorway, 25 km. in length, for which MTI concluded a financing contract through Sectoral Operational Programme - SOP Transport.
Constructor is to be selected by this year-end, according to MTI representatives estimations.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure attracted so far just 32 million euros through SOP Transport, but next year another 500 million euros could be attracted, Serban Cucu, director of External Financial Relations Department with MTI, told AGERPRES.
'So far, we absorbed some 32 million euros, but I think that in 2011 we can reach up to 500 million euros, according to a pessimistic scenario and even to 700 million euros, according to an optimistic one', said Serban Cucu.
He explained that the majority of funds absorbed till now were used for motorway construction and announced that by this year-end constructors for the three important motorway segments with European funding will be selected.
SOP Transport is financed in 2010 with 729.632 million euros from the Cohesion Fund (515.554 million euros) and by the European Fund for Regional Development (214.078 million euros).
Romania is to receive 5.7 billion euros through SOP Transport 2007-2013.
