New industrial orders almost 19 pct up in Q1

In the first quarter of 2010, industrial new orders were by 18.9 pct higher compared to the similar period of the year before, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informed in a Thursday release.
The comparative year-on-year statistics reveals a growth by 18.9 pct in new industrial orders mainly as a result of the advance in the following activity sectors: the industry of intermediate goods (+25.5 percent), the capital goods industry (+20.9 percent), the durables industry (+11.1 percent). A decline was registered only by the industry of fast moving consumer goods (-2.4 percent).
According to INS data, in March 2010, new industrial orders on both the domestic and the foreign markets increased in nominal terms 20.2 pct from the previous month and 28.6 pct from the same month of 2009.
The INS report is based on figures collected from 2,900 companies classified by homogeneous activity groups and on individual comparative reports by companies with a high economic potential (with more than 50 employees). The maximum admissible error margin is ± 3 percent.
