GE Garanti Bank takes over operations run by GarantiBank International N.V. - Romanian branch

GE Garanti Bank, a new credit institution authorized by Romania's National Bank (BNR) is to become operational on May 29, by taking over all operations run by GarantiBank International N.V. - Romanian Branch.
The transfer is to be finalized on May 29 and from, that moment on, Garanti Bank International N.V. - Romanian Branch is to cease activity, all its operations being continued by GE Garanti Bank.
According to a release of GE Garanti Bank, the clients will further benefit of the same advantages offered by GarantiBank through developed products and services so far.
The majority shareholder of GE Garanti Bank is Garanti Turkey, which holds 70 percent of the stock. The remainder of 30 percent of the stock is held by General Electric Capital Corporation, one of the largest companies in the world.
'The setting up of GE Garanti Bank is a proof of our engagement in the long-term strategy to have a universal bank in Romania. We chose to be a local bank in the aim to create a stronger banking institution on the Romanian market, offering a complete range of products and services, both to individuals and to corporate entities', said GarantiBank Director general Murat Atay.
In 2009, GarantiBank International N.V. - Romanian Branch posted very good results: the loan volume higher by more than 50 percent, to the level of 550 million euros from 350 million euros at the end of 2008, and the assets value almost double, up to 830 million euros. As well, in 2009 the number of clients was over three-fold higher from the end of 2008, to almost 150,000.
'We plan to reiterate this growth in 2010, when we will further develop, our plans being aimed at a 50 percent growth of the assets volume, as well as an increase in the volume of loans and deposits by 40 percent. At the same time, by 2011-end, we have a twice as much territorial network, up to 100 units. As well, we have a plan of a significant development of all our portfolios, which will be sustained by launching some innovating products and services. The ambitious growth plans we have are a proof of the trust we put into the local banking market potential', added Murat Atay.
Garanti Turkey is the second largest private bank in Turkey, with assets over 54.4 billion euros and a net consolidated profit of 1.45 billion euros on December 31, 2009, at a chain of 800 units , with 16,000 employees and more than nine million clients.
