The 24th Session of Turkish-Romanian Joint Economic Committee Meeting was held in Bucharest on 27-28 May 2010 under the Co-Chairmanship of H.E. Sadullah Ergin, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey and H.E.
Catalin Predoiu, Minister of Justice of Romania.The meeting presented a valuable opportunity for discussing the ways of mitigating the effects of the financial crisis on Turkish-Romanian economic relations and identifying priority areas of cooperation for revitalizing commercial exchanges.
According to the release sent by the Turkish Embassy in Bucharest, at the end of the meeting, the Protocol of the 24th Session of Turkish-Romanian Joint Economic Committee was signed by H.E. Sadullah Ergin and H.E. Catalin Predoiu.In the framework of the Joint Economic Committee Meeting, the Parties organized a Business Forum on 28 May 2010, with the participation of Turkish and Romania businessmen and high ranking Romanian officials. Minister Ergin and Minister Predoiu also attended the meeting and delivered their speech.
The forum provided with an important platform for exploring new opportunities of collaboration in the fields of energy, transport, construction, tourism and health. Turkish and Romania businessmen also discussed possible joint projects in Turkey and Romania as well as in third countries. On the occasion of the meeting, H.E. Sadullah Ergin held bilateral talks with the Minister of Justice H.E. Catalin Predoiu, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Radu Berceanu and Minister of Economy, Trade and the Business Environment Adriean Videanu. During the talks, the Ministers exchanged views on Turkish-Romanian relations in the fields of economy, transportation, energy and justice.
At the end of the meetings, both sides agreed on intensifying their cooperation on making better use of the Black Sea as an important route between Europe and Asia through the Caucasus. To this end, parties decided to increase their efforts to improve connectivity between the Black Sea ports of two countries and to increase cooperation on the Danube.
Trade exchanges between Romania and Turkey will amount to 20 billion dollars, on a medium term, after it totalled 7.5 billion dollars in 2008, Turkey's Justice Minister and joint chairman of the Joint Economic Commission Sadullah Ergin said on Friday.
'Trade exchanges amounted to 7.5 billion dollars in 2008, but they dropped to 4.5 billion dollars in 2009 due to the downturn, but in the first four months of 2010 we registered a 59 percent growth and we aim at trade exchanges worth 20 billion dollars on a medium term because the time of great projects has come,' he said.
Romania's Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu, joint chairman of the Joint Economic Commission, said that Romania was waiting for Turkish investors, over 11,000 companies in this country are already operating in Romania in fields such as energy, transports as well as in projects carried out with European fund.
