McDonald's Romania is staking on a 5 percent rise of business in 2010 and will invest more than 10 million euros (47 million lei) for one or two new drive-in restaurants and for the renovation of another two restaurants, announced on Wednesday Karen Bishop, McDonald's Romania manager, on the occasion of 15 years of presence on the market in Romania.
'This year we recorded a 4.5 percent business growth in the first quarter, compared to 2009 and we bet on a 5 percent rise this year. We have a very well structured business and the crisis did not affect us too much. On the contrary, we want to take advantage of the created opportunities', said Karen Bishop.
If in 2008 the company posted some 400 million lei in business, the turnover rose 4 percent in 2009 and is to rise 5 percent in 2010. McDonald's currently has 3,400 employees, of whom 700 hired in the first six months of this year.
Company representatives said that, since the opening of the first restaurant in Unirii Square in 1995, in Bucharest, the company had more than 500 million clients in Romania and has 140,000 clients daily, on average.
Currently, McDonald's numbers 62 restaurants in Romania in 21 cities, 32 drive-ins, 16 stores in various locations and 14 mall restaurants.
McDonald's will renovate five restaurants and is to open another three restaurants in 2011, on an investment of 70 million lei. Per total, the company invested 300 million lei in Romania in its 15 years of activity.
