Romanian investors, invited to do business in Algeria

Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Algerian Parliament Abdelhamid Siafif has invited Romanian companies to invest in Algeria, the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Milieu (MECMA) report in a press release issued on Wednesday.
On a visit to Romania, Siafif and a business retinue invited Romanian companies to participate in the building of railways, motorways, ports and airport in Algeria.Siafif presented an overview of Algeria's 2010-2014 National Investment Programme worth $150 billion of public money.
State secretary for small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and the business milieu with the MECMA Irinel Cristu pointed out that a field of common interest in the Romanian-Algerian bilateral economic cooperation is oil and energy, an area where Romania has an internationally-recognised expertise and which can deliver highly performing equipment and machinery.
In order to further develop and intensify the bilateral partnership, the two officials agreed on the need to boost direct contacts between business operators and their participation in trade fairs, exhibitions and trade mission in Bucharest and Alger.
Algeria is Romania's main foreign trade partner in Africa. Over the past six years, Romanian exports to Algeria has constantly increased, with 2009 witnessing the highest value after 1990, of $185 million, out of a bilateral trade worth $235 million.
The main 2009 Romanian exports to Algeria were Dacia Logan automobiles (more than 17,200 units); metallurgical products; cereals; chemicals and chemical fertilisers; construction materials (timber, concrete); vegetal oils; electrical and electronic components and materials; special equipment; vegetal products; food products; plastics and rubber; wood pulp, paper and cardboard; textiles; optical and photographic devices, and furniture.
Algerian exports to Romania were mainly natural juices and fruits; minerals; oil and liquefied gas; scrap iron and copper.
