Eurostat: Foreign direct investments from outside EU in Romania were 600 million euro in 2009

In 2009, foreign direct investment in Romania coming from states outside the community block were 600 million euros, out of which important were Switzerland contribution, Canada and offshore flows , Eurostat says.
Out of all non-community investment in Romania, 200 million euro came from Switzerland, 100 million euro came from Canada, and offshores contributed with 200 million euro in investments, according to the preliminary report published by the European bureau of statistics. As regards the direct investments from Romania to partnership countries of the European Union, the invested sums did not surpass 50 million euro and that is why they were not taken separately.
In 2009, direct foreign investment of the EU in the countries outside the community block dropped by 24% from 348 billion euro in 2008 to 263 billion euro in 2009 while the foreign direct investments of the partner coutries to the EU increased by 12% from 199 billion euro to 222 billion euro, according to the preliminary estimates of Eurostat, according to NewsIn.
The main destination of European investment were the United States with 40% although the volume of EU investment to the US dropped from 121 billion euro in 2008 to 69 billion euro in 2009.
