Tarom cuts baggage excess fee fivefold as of July 1
Agerpres - 1 Iulie 2010
The switch from the weight-based to the piece-based baggage allowance system results in fivefold lower baggage fees for Tarom airline Economy class passengers, for tickets issued starting July 1, reads a release of the air carrier.
Business class passengers can take three standard luggage pieces for free, whereas Economy passengers are allowed to take one standard piece for free. Depending on the travel class, Flying Blue passengers holding Elite or Elite Plus cards can take between two and four free pieces of luggage.
According to TAROM, the company changes its baggage allowance policy for flights operated on its own aircraft, switching from the weight-based to the piece-based system. Under the new system, fees charged for excess baggage will be five times lower than in the weight-based system.
The new system comes with other facilities for company passengers. For example, mobility impaired persons are entitled to free wheelchair transport and their pets also get free transportation, provided that Tarom was given prior notice.
With a turnover of 191.4 million euros in 2009, Tarom is the Romanian national carrier, a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) since 1993, and of the Association of European Airlines (AEA) since 2000.
Tarom operates to 54 destinations in the 2010 summer season, covering countries in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
On June 5, 2010, Tarom switched to the Flying Blue loyalty program which was created and operated by Air France and KLM.
Tarom estimates this year over two million transported passengers and a load factor higher than 60 percent.
