IMF, BNR and CE will analyse reports of nine main banks in Romania
ACTMedia - 7 Iulie 2010
The main nine banks in Romania will meet in Brussels on 22 July with IMF, BNR and CE for the fourth evaluation of the accord concluded in Vienna in March 2009 and will probably request the reduction of expositions in the local market, official sources told Mediafax.
'Usually the banks requested an evaluation meeting but until now neither IMF nor BNR agreed. I think this scenario will be repeated,' the sources said.
After concluding the financing accord with Romania, IMF and the European Commission obtained the written agreement of the first nine foreign banks according to the shares held in Romania that they would maintain their expositions at the level registered in March 2009.
Since the beginning of 2010 financial groups with exposition in Central and Eastern European countries requested freedom in transferring capital among states of the area and collaboration between local authorities for a consolidated supervision.Central groups of the main nine banks with foreign capital signed in August 2009 bilateral letters of engagement to maintain the exposition level in Romania at March level and the solvability rate of their branches at over 10%.
The nine banks also met in spring this year in Athens to approve the continuation of the Vienna initiative.Accords were signed with Erste Bank, Raiffeisen International, Eurobank EFG, National Bank of Greece, Societe Generale, Alpha Bank, Volksbank, Piraeus Bank and UniCredit which hold 70% of the Romanian market.
