Local banks to meet with Central Bank and IMF representatives (neutral)
Raiffeisen Capital&Investment - 8 Iulie 2010
According to local media, the top management of the nine largest banks, which reached a gentlemen agreement with IMF and Romania's Central Bank (BNR) on maintaining their country exposure in spring of 2009, will meet with representatives of Romania's Central Bank and IMF on July 22 in Brussels for the semi-annual assessment of the above mentioned agreement.
According to BNR and participating banks representatives, the meeting is expecting to bring no changes. All banks have met their commitment on maintaining their country exposure. Another issue to be discussed is the application of IFRS standards for provisioning purpose. Currently, provisions are made under Romanian accounting standards which impose tougher provisioning criteria. However, we do not expect any changes in this respect, as according to BNR the IFRS reporting standards are planned to be applied in 2012.We view the news as neutral and expect no impact on the two listed banks, BRD-GSG and Banca Transilvania.
