Romania's consulates to Balti and Cahul, Republic of Moldova were opened officially on Friday in the presence of Romanian Foreign minister Teodor Baconschi and his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Ieanca.

ForMin Baconschi campaigning for UN peacekeeping force in Transnistria
On Friday in Chisinau, Romania's Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi talked about the need for a UN peacekeeping force in Moldova's troubled region of Transnistria. At a news conference there he mentioned rising interest on the part of the European Union in general and of some EU member states in particular in the negotiations concerning the Transnistria issue.'We hope the 5+2 negotiating format will be reactivated and we hope to bring all the arguments, together with our European partners, for a UN peace-keeping force to be deployed in Transnistria,' said Baconschi.
According to Agerpres correspondent, he added that Romania is no longer a singular voice in Europe to warn about the destabilising potentials of the frozen conflicts in Eastern Europe, pointing to recent statements in Bucharest by the German foreign minister. In his opinion, the 5+2 negotiating format will be reactivated with a plus of political weight on the part of the EU, because when major European players get involved in seeking a peaceful solution that will observe the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova it will be in the interest of all the regional factors - the EU and the Russian Federation alike - to look together for a solution to this artificial conflict. This conflict, he added, is potentially destabilising and has been inhibiting for too long the development opportunities of this region, the chance of receiving investment and living a better future.
Romania keeps its position on Kosovo independence
Romania keeps its position on not recognising the independence of the Serb province of Kosovo even after a resolution of the European Parliament on Thursday says that the MEPs would hail the EU member states recognising the independence of Kosovo, Romania's Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi said on Friday in Chisinau.
'We are waiting for the consultative opinion of the International Court of Justice on this matter and we are sticking to our initial position,' said Baconschi.
He added that Romania's position has to do with a certain 'national line.' 'Romania has the most solid respect in principle to the recommendations of the European Parliament, but, at the same time, it has a national line to follow that is no less principled about the Kosovo file,' he said.
The European Parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution drawn up by MEP Ulrike Lunacek calling on all EU member states to recognise Kosovo. The document says the EP 'would welcome the recognition by all member states of the independence of Kosovo,' mentioning that 22 of the EU's 27 member states have recognised Kosovo as an independent country, while five - Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain - have not.
