Romania captures the attention of Japanese companies as a new destination for investments

In the light of elements such as its capability to provide high-quality human resources at a relatively low cost, Romania could serve as a gateway to the European Union (EU) for Japanese companies, reads a press release of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA).
Romanian Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu received on Wednesday, in the presence of Natsuo Amemiya, Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Romania, a delegation of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) headed by the two co-chairs of the Keidanren Committee on Europe Shinichi Yokoyama and Yoshimitsu Kobayashi.
On this occasion, Minister Videanu reiterated the particular importance Romania attaches to the development of economic relations with Japan, one of Romania's strategic economic partners in Asia as far as both bilateral and EU-Japan exchanges are concerned.
The MECMA official voiced appreciation for the open and constant partnership Keidanren has been maintaining with the Romanian economic institutions through official contacts in recent years, on the occasion of economic missions to Romania and of the meetings of Romanian officials who visited Japan.
In the same context, Videanu reminded the recent release for public debate of a highly important document titled 'The reindustrialization of Romania,' stating that in the economic restart process Romania can benefit from the experience and involvement of Keidanren and implicitly of Japanese companies.
According to the two co-chairs of the Keidanren Committee on Europe, Shinichi Yokoyama and Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, the mission of the Keidanren delegation to Eastern Europe is to seek ways to expand commerce and investments between East European countries and Japan.
During the talks, both the Romanian and the Japanese side expressed their interest and support for the conclusion of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
Attending the talks on behalf of the Romanian side were Minister of Public Finance Sebastian Vladescu; Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Radu Berceanu; president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mihail Vlasov; president of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sorin Dimitriu; president of the Alliance of Romanian Employers' Confederation George Constantin Paunescu; president of the Romanian Business People's Association Florin Pogonaru; president of the UGIR 1903 union of Romanian industrialists Cezar Coraci; and president of the Concordia Employers Confederation Dan Gheorghiu.
The delegation of the Japan Business Federation that is touring three East European countries (Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria) July 18 - 24 on an economic mission included 30 members, representatives of major Japanese corporations such as Sumitomo, Mitsubishi, Itochu, All Nippon Airways, Nomura Securities, Asahi, Hitachi Mitsui, NEC, Marubeni.
