ACTMedia - 26 Iulie 2010
The value of sums sent by the Romanians who work outside the country dropped from 5.156 billion euro in 2008 to 3.026 billion euro in 2009 but Romania is still second in the EU member states according to the level of transfers, according to Eurostat data.
The sums sent by the Romanians who live in EU member states were worth 2.668 billion euro last year, the highest level recorded at the level of the European community, against 4.792 billion euro in 2008. The inflow from Romanian citizens who work outside the EU were 358 million euro in 2009, as compared to 364 million euro in 2008.
The first place in the EU is occupied by Spain with a total of 4.820 billion euro. Out of the 27 member states, Eurostat presented only 22 countries, out of which have zero remission ( Germany, Latvia, Slovenia and Finland).
The Eurostat mentions the corridors Italy-Romania and Spain –Romania as being the biggest in the EU from the point of view of sums sent in 2007 and 2008. The Romanians who live in Italy sent 2.013 billion euro in 2007 and 2.202 billion euro in 2008 while the transfers from Spain were worth 1.289 billion euro, 1.579 billion euro respectively. Last year, the remissions from Romania were 174 million euro out of which 85 million to the EU states and 89 million euro from outside the bloc.
Eurostat says that in most cases the sums that go out of the country are higher than the sums coming in, with the exception of Romania, Portugal, Poland, Lithuania, Greece, Sweden and Estonia. The statistics bureau of the EU shows that in the absence of the remissions from citizens who work abroad, the deficits of current account in Romania and Poland would be 50% higher.
Last year, salaries and other earnings paid in Romania to foreign workers were 44 million euro, out of which 33 million euro were destined to the citizens in EU countries. In 2008, these remissions were 66 million euro. The salaries paid in Germany to Romanian citizens went up in 2008 at 994 million euro, from 675 million euro in 2007. The corridor Germany-Romania was in 2008 the seventh as dimension in the EU. « The only corridor which does not involve neighbouring countries is that between Germany and Romania which reflects, probably the significant number of season workers' the study mentions.
