More than 10 million euros for Romanian-Hungarian transboundary projects
Agentia Nationala de Presa - Agerpres - 17 August 2010
The European financing assigned for 80 software-type projects for the development of the Romanian-Hungarian border area, as part of the third call for projects of the Hungary - Romania Cross-border Cooperation Programme amounts to EUR 10.5 million, informs a release of the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT).
The contribution of the two member states, and depending on the specific case - of the beneficiaries - adds to the European financing earmarked for these projects. Under the third call for project proposals, the applicants could submit projects worth a maximum of 1.5 million euros.
The implementation of the selected projects will help improve access to transboundary transport and communication networks, will contribute to the betterment of the transboundary waste and water management, to the development of common tourist, business and environmental activities, respectively to setting in place and strengthening common health-care, culture and education structures.
The third call for project proposals was launched in October 2009 by Hungary's National Agency for Development - as Managing Authority, together with the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, acting as National Authority.
The 280 submitted projects underwent assessment in one stage and 80 thereof were approved for funding.
The area eligible for financing includes the counties on both sides of the Romanian-Hungarian border (the Romanian counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad and Timisoara and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Hajdú-Bihar, Békés and Csongrád on the Hungarian side).
Besides the local and county governments, non-profit organizations, micro-regional associations or regional development agencies, also eligible for financing are environmental protection or water/ waste management agencies, national parks and education institutions, tourism and business supporting organizations, as well as labor employment agencies.
The next call for project proposals under the program is expected to be launched in autumn 2010, for both software, and infrastructure or small-scale investment projects.
