Census conducted to identify main traffic flows in Romania

Romania's National Motorways and National Roads Company (CNADR) will perform on Wednesday,between 8.00 - 12.00 and 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. a survey on the country's public roads as part of the Europewideroad traffic census, the company informs.
The Origin-Destination Survey, as it is called, is part of the Road Traffic Census that will be conductedthroughout Europe this year on the entire Romanian public road network. According to CNADR, this isa study of public interest that will feed a statistical database for the identification of the main trafficflows with a view to directing investments, allocating budgets and adjusting development strategies.Teams of surveyors and traffic agents will take action on Wednesday in locations determined bystatistical methods, covering the entire national road network, inviting drivers to pull over on the hardshoulder and answer a set of questions, as follows: the origin of their journey (like for instanceBucharest, Iasi, Craiova, Cluj-Napoca, etc.); their destination (e.g. Targu Mures, Timisoara, Iasi,Constanta, etc.), the route taken (e.g. Nadlac-Deva-Arad, Bucharest -Ramnicu Valcea - Sibiu, etc.), thepurpose of the trip (tourism, business, commuting, other); drivers of goods vehicles will be asked tomention the ware type, those of passenger vehicles will have to specify the number of passengers.The vehicle registration number, the driver's name or other registration / identification data will not berecorded or mentioned in the survey forms.The surveyors will wear specific insignia and will fill out the answers on printed forms.The teams of surveyors are sized such as to avoid hindering or jamming the traffic, or delaying thedrivers. The Road Traffic Census is an action aimed at studying the road traffic that allows thesubstantiation of strategies and local road network development policies, planning road maintenanceand repair works.
