European Commission approves Ministry of Communication project application

he Ministry of Communications and Information Society (MCSI) received on Tuesday from the European Commission the financing agreement for the project entitled Study on Developing an European Integrated Cybernetic System, Employing a Pilot System Aimed at the Main National Internet Service Providers (ECIS), having a total value of 627,000 euros, reads a MCSI press release.
The project's duration is 22 months and sets to draft a study in order to develop an European protection system against the massive cyber attacks on the ICT critical infrastructure, carried out through the public networks of the Internet providers, banks, private companies or other institutions.
The final outcome will be an integrated model to be proposed to all EU electronic service providers. The ECIS project's specific objectives are to promote and support the community coordination and cooperation, as well as to carry out joint exercises with the help of various scenarios in order to increase the efficiency level in the critical infrastructure protection sector.
The relevance of this project is emphasized by the fact that the critical infrastructure protection issue represents a priority both at European and at national levels. Among the partners involved in the project are the Ministry of Administration and Interior, the Ministry of National Defence, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service, communication companies such as Teletrans, Romtelecom, Vodafone, INES Grup, IT security companies, such as Provision, Bitdefender or Best Internet Security.
