Environment Ministers from Romania and Hungary Borbely Laszlo and Fazekas Sandor stated on Tuesday, at the end of their meeting at the Ministry of Environment, in Bucharest, that they have a plan to create an institute meant to study river Danube, as well as the strategies to be implemented in this hydrographic basin.
'The Danube Strategy top priority is represented by defence against floods. Chapter 5 of the document, which refers to floods and defence against floods, also includes a point on Romanian-Hungarian joint cooperation in this field. We address to those who finalize the Danube Strategy a Romanian-Hungarian joint request because we have a lot in common as for the water flows, rivers. We plan to study the Danube through a joint institute. We will set up a Danube joint institute', underlined Borbely.
In his turn, Minister for Steady Development of Hungary Fazekas Sandor reiterated this cooperation, whereas another member of the Hungarian delegation Barsine Pataky Etelka, Governmental Commissioner for the Danube Strategy, pinpointed the fact that it is important that the two countries face challenges determined by climatic changes.
'Hungary and Romania will candidate together for the coordination role on the prevention of flood risks. We must also face challenges related to the climatic changes. One could ask: Why we, Hungary and Romania? Because Hungary has currently longer dams than in The Netherlands, and if they are also measured in Romania I think that the situation is similar here (...)', underlined Pataky Etelka.
As well, during the press conference on Tuesday, Borbely Laszlo announced that details have been adopted connected to a future joint Romanian-Hungarian Government meeting scheduled in November.
'We have established the details of a future joint Government meeting. It is programmed in November. Among important items on the meeting's agenda there is the joint administration of CEFA National Park, on the border between the two countries', pointed out the Romanian Minister for Environment and Forestry.
The Hungarian official added, in his turn, that some other important items are in view for the joint Government meeting in November.
'The joint Government meeting is an especially important event. We make every effort so that the meeting's agenda includes a series of important topics of discussion, such as the environment protection. We think that the creation of a joint institute for the management of Danube is a valuable initiative. We could also implement some common European projects', said Fazekas.
