ACTMedia - 2 Septembrie 2010
Mircea Geoana, the Senate speaker , decided to invite next week governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu and Minister of Finance Sebastian Vladescu to discuss the 'real condition of the Romanian economy,' the Senate announced at the end of the session of the Standing Bureau.
'The Standing Bureau approved a proposal I made, specifically that we should invite next week governor of the National Bank of Romania and the Minister of Finance to a meeting of the extended Senate Permanent Bureau for a discussion on the real state of the economy. This is how we always proceeded whenever we were through sensitive economic and monetary times. We do not want to turn this meeting into a political show, we just feel the need to get first-hand information,' said Geoana.
According to Mircea Geoana, the Standing Bureau also discussed the necessity 'to complete Romania's institutional architecture of in relation with European issues.'
'We are the only EU state that does not have the relationship between the government and the law-making body and the mechanisms needed for the adoption of decisions on European matters regulated by law. We think this is an absolute priority. I think all the parliamentary groups will embrace this plan - a mechanism for the active monitoring of the liabilities arising from the recent project Europe 20-20 and from the acquis communautaire,' said Geoana.
At the same time, the Senate Chairman also referred to the major projects that will be discussed and voted on during this ordinary session, mentioning that the Senators consider the presence of the ministers in the Senate plenary meeting is 'mandatory' when highly important laws are being discussed.
