Jeffrey Franks: Romania should not change its main taxes in 2011
Agerpres - 6 Septembrie 2010
The chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Romania, Jeffrey Franks, on Sunday, September 5, after an informal meeting he had with the newly appointed Minister of Public Finance, Gheorghe Ialomitianu, said that Romania should not change its main taxes next year.
Jeffrey Franks is currently paying a visit to Bucharest to attend ceremonies occasioned by the 130th anniversary of the Romanian National Bank (BNR).
The chief of the IMF mission in Romania also had a meeting on Friday with Prime Minister Emil Boc and Monday will be received by President Traian Basescu.
Romania's representative to the IMF, Mihai Tanasescu, on Friday told Agerpres that 'the fact that the chief of the IMF mission in Romania came to Bucharest in the precise day when the newly appointed ministers were sworn in it was nothing else but simple coincidence. The reshuffle of the Boc Cabinet does not influence Romania's agreement with the IMF,' said Tanasescu.'The discussions with the IMF board on the on completion of the assessment report of Romania will take place in late September, following in October an IMF mission to come to Bucharest to review the financial assistance programme. Things are going on normally, given that the IMF works with institutions, and not with people, and the people have to go on with coordinating the development of this programme. Messages received from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Finance, George Ialomitianu, showed us that the Romanian authorities are determined to continue the programme with the IMF and the European Commission,'' Romania's representative to the IMF also said.
