Analysts: Inflation rate at 0.4% in Aug., 7.9% in Dec.

The monthly inflation rate in this August most likely stood at 0.4 percent (with estimates ranging between 0.2 and 0.9 percent), while the year-on-year inflation rate was 7.7 percent (with estimates ranging between 7 and 8.3 percent), reveals a survey of the Romanian Association of Financial-Banking Analysts (RAFBA) made public on Wednesday.
The polled Association members anticipated the year-on-year inflation rate will be 7.9 percent at year-end (with estimates ranging from 6.6 to 8.5 percent).
The RAFBA is a professional non-lucrative association set up in 2008 that gathers more than 50 analysts from the banking sector, pension funds, investment management companies, insurance companies and from the capital market.
The National Bank of Romania's (BNR) inflation rate projection for 2010 is 7.8 percent, with the year-on-year inflation rate to stand at 3.1 percent in 2011. According to BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu, the annualised inflation rate will go up to 8 percent in the third quarter of this year and it will drop in the fourth quarter, with the annualised inflation rate to stand at 7.8 percent in December.
The average monthly inflation rate in the seven months was 0.8 percent, with the year-on-year inflation rate in July attaining 7.14 percent, according to figures centralised by the National Institute for Statistics.The consumer price index went up by 2.58 percent from June.
The overall average price rises in the last 12 months (Aug. 2009 - July 2010) from the previous 12 months (Aug. 2008- July 2009) established on the basis of the consumer price index and the one established on the basis of the harmonised consumer price index was 4.8 percent.
