Exchange rate leu-Swiss franc reached historic level – 3.3504 lei/franc

The exchange rate leu – Swiss Franc, calculated by BNR reached on Wednesday the historic level of 3,3504 lei/franc which means a depreciation of the national currency of almost 18% against the first day of the year.

The exchange rate leu-Swiss franc depreciated constantly this year, only since the beginning of September the rate going up by 1.8% which affected the Romanians who had a contract for loans in Swiss francs. For example, if a client has to pay an installment of 500 Swiss francs, he will have to pay on Wednesday 140 lei more than one month earlier.

According to the BNR data, 4.5% of the total of credits and pledges assumed by credit institutions with values of over 20,000 lei are in other currency than euro, leu or American dollars, Swiss francs and yen respectively.
