MFP sells treasury bills worth almost RON 400 mn

The Public Finance Ministry (MFP) on Monday drew 372.027 million lei (approximately 87.535 million euros) by issuing discount treasury bills, placed in tender by the National Bank of Romania.
The government securities have a one-year maturity, September 14, 2011, and the issue was purchased at an average benefit of 7 percent. The weighted average discount rate was 6.54 percent.
The total value of the issue was one billion lei and the total demand of the twelve banks involved in the tender was 1.820 billion lei.
Twelve primary dealers laid offers on the government securities: Alpha Bank Romania, the Romanian Development Bank - Groupe Societe Generale, the Carpatica Commercial Bank, the Romanian Commercial Bank, the Transilvania Bank, Bancpost, the CEC Bank, Citibank Europe PLC Dublin, the Romania subsidiary, ING Bank NV Amsterdam, the Bucharest subsidiary, the Raiffeisen Bank, the Royal Bank of Scotland Romania and the UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
MFP wants to borrow from banks in September 4.6 billion lei (over a billion euro) by six issues of treasury bills and bonds.
The next tender, the fourth this month, will be held on September 16 and the last tender in September is planned for the 27th.
In the first eight months of 2010, MFP borrowed over 25 billion lei from the internal market, after drawing approximately 65 billion lei in 2009.
