Petrom, Raiffeisen Bank and BCR officials about fiscal system in Romania

A company cannot be based on the fiscal system in Romania, the financial director of Petrom, Reinhard Pichler said. He mentioned that he did not support the elimination of taxes but a fair tax system.

'Romania's biggest problem concerns the legal and fiscal system. You cannot count on the fiscal system,' said Pichler, at an event organized by the fiscal consulting and financial audit company Leitner Leitner.The official from Petrom, the largest contributor to the state budget, said the state should take measures to limit crisis effects and should invest in infrastructure.

In his turn Ionut Dumitru, the senior economist at Raiffeisen Bank Romania and chairman of the Fiscal Council showed that the biggest problem at present is the number of taxes and bureaucracy.

'The fiscal code should be simplified and this should be our priority,' Dumitru said. He mentioned that the process of fiscal consolidation in Romania should continue to bring economy on the path of healthy and sustainable growth.'

At the same time the financial manager of Petrom was optimistic about the prospects of Romanian economy which may grow on the long run.Helmuth Hintringer, the financial manager of BCR said he was 'optimistic' about Romania's long term perspective.'Unfortunately the crisis is not over. Small companies suffered a lot and this is the largest problem as these companies are the heart of economy,' Hintringer said.

'I believe in Romania's future on a long term. Difficult conditions have their advantages too. If you have to fight then the victory in the end will be better than a sustained victory without fight', said Christoph Leitl, the president of the Federal Chamber of Commerce of Austria.He showed that Romania should do more at national level than manage crisis effects, it should communicate better the measures adopted, have a stable and courageous government, cut red tape and use European funds.

'A prognosis for 2011? I don't know. Insecurity is the only thing certain at present and this is also seen in Romania,' Leitl said.
