ACTMedia - 21 Septembrie 2010
Austrian companies are still interested to invest in Romania, but they ask for more transparency, efficiency and consistency in public administration, as well as the improvement of the legal system, Rudolf Lukavsky, representative of the Austrian Embassy to Bucharest, said on Monday in Bucharest, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Trade Department of the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest.
Austria remains on top in the foreign investors' hierarchy in Romania, with a total investment volume of 10 billion euros, announced on Monday Rudolf Lukavsky. Of the 10 billion euros invested by Austrian companies in Romania, 500 million euros were invested in 2009, underlined the Austrian trade counselor.
Austrian companies have created some 100,000 jobs in Romania, especially in the services field (banking, insurance, real estate development, transport), as well as in industry (wood processing, construction materials, cellulose and paper), agriculture and renewable energy.According to Rudolf Lukavsky, best known Austrian companies active in Romania are OMV, Erste Bank Group, Raiffeisen, Vienna Insurance Group, Schweighofer, Kronospan, Egger, Lasselsberger/Sanex, Euromedia, Dunapack, Voestalpine.
Schweighofer currently exploits the largest energy stations based on bio-mass in Romania.'Erste invested 3.75 billion euros in BCR in 2005, representing the biggest investment ever made by an Austrian company abroad. OMW invested 1.5 billion euros in Petrom in 2004, but so far the total investment is up to five billion euros', said Lukavsky. The first branch abroad of the famous transporter Schenker was opened in Bucharest some time ago, and recently it acquired the Romanian company Romtrans.
At present, more than 5,800 companies with Austrian capital participation are active in Romania, set up by more than 1,000 Austrian active investors. Commodities exchange reached 1.6 billion euros in 2009, of which Austrian imports accounted for 645 million euros. In 2010 Austrian imports to Romania rose by 40.9 percent, said Rudolf Lukavsky.
'In 2009 not all Austrian companies in Romania got profit, but when it appeared it was not repatriated. Neither Petrom, nor Erste or Raiffeisen banks repatriated the profit', underscored the Austrian Embassy trade counselor.
Austria manifested a steady interest in the Romanian market, highlighted by the establishment of an Austrian representation in Bucharest, in 1948, just two years after the first such agency was opened in Paris. Austrian investments development prospects in Romania are mainly in fields as renewable energy, research - development and auto spare parts production, Lukavsky also said.
