East Capital: Proprietatea Fund is very important to us
ACTMedia - 15 Octombrie 2010
The flotation of Proprietatea Fund on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) increased investor interest in the Romanian capital markets; this was a wise decision the Government has taken, head of the East Capital (EC) Investment Division Peter Elam Hakansson on Wednesday, Oct. 13, told a press conference in Vienna.
'Proprietatea Fund is very important to us. There are many attractive assets included in its portfolio, even if they are difficult to evaluate at this time because of market volatility. Many investors plan coming to Romania, but this is currently a rather dispiriting moment. We do not expect immediate profit. Investments with Proprietatea Fund are long-range investments,' Hakansson told Agerpres.
Manager in charge of the Romanian investments portfolio, Andras Szalkai, believes that this is a good time to buy in Romania, 'when the market is down.' One shouldn't wait until the market starts rising, 'and this will definitely happen,' Szalkai said.
He considers the amount of BVB trades, which hardly go past 30 million euros a day, is meager, whereas Vienna Stock Exchange daily trades are in excess of 400 million euros.
East Capital investment fund is currently present on nine large-size markets, China, Hong Kong, Paris and Moscow included, and manages a portfolio of $6.3 bln worth of investments. Proprietatea Fund was set up to compensate property owners abusively dispossessed during the communist regime (1945-1989) for whom restitution in kind is no longer possible.
