BNR Governor Isarescu, presented excellence diploma of Eurolink - Europe House Foundation

Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu on Friday was presented the 'Personality of the Year 2010 for a European Romania' excellence diploma' by the Eurolink - Europe House Foundation.

The diploma was granted 'in recognition of a decisive contribution to reflection and action in the filed of financial stability in Romania in the complicated context of Romania's accession to the European Union, EU membership and preparations for a switchover to the single European currency.'

In a speech to the award ceremony, Isarescu said this diploma has a special significance to him, because 10 years ago, when he was Romania's prime minister, Romania started accession talks with the European Union.

In his opinion, a mistake was made when the Romanian citizens were made to believe that once in the EU things will get better.

'If we promote the correct idea that the living standards are linked to productivity, innovation, entrepreneurship, European funds, then the pessimism of Romanians will dissipate,' said Isarescu.

MEP Petru Luhan, a recipient of the same diploma, explained in his turn the need for Romania to draw in European funds.

Also receiving excellence diploma were diplomat Florin Saghi, Director of the Radu Stanca National Theatre of Sibiu Constantin Chriac, and Secretary General of the Association of Romanian Business People (AOAR) Cristian Parvan.
