Romania and Poland on Tuesday signed an Action Plan as part of the Romanian-Polish Strategic Partnership, with state secretary at the Foreign Ministry Doru Costea signing the document for Romania and Polish counterpart Jan Borkowski signing it for Poland.
The document was signed in the presence of Romanian President Traian Basescu and his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski, who has been on official visit to Bucharest since Monday afternoon.
'The main objective of the first part of our discussions was signing the Action Plan resulted from the common decision of a strategic partnership. The Action Plan, the signing of which you have witnessed, aims at security policies, European business, security in the Eastern proximity, military cooperation, in the defence industry included, energy security, economic exchanges, freedom, security and justice space,' Traian Basescu detailed. In his turn Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski considered that the document signed at the Cotroceni Palace is decisive in point of the bilateral relationships. 'I am glad we could make decisive progress today regarding the prospects of a closer collaboration. ... We shall make the efforts for these possibilities to be sustained and accomplished,' said Komorowski.
Komorowski voices hope that agreement on implementing strategic partnership will be supported by deeds too
During the talks he held with Romanian Premier Emil Boc Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said that he insisted very much on the fact that the agreement on implementing the strategic partnership, which was signed in Bucharest on Tuesday, should also be supported by deeds. 'I am glad that, during this visit, both Governments signed the agreement on implementing the strategic partnership, which was previously signed. We all know very well that in politics it is much easier to make statements than to put the same statements into effect. This is why I insist very much on the fact that this agreement should also be supported by deeds,' said the Polish Head of State. He emphasized the necessity of a very close cooperation between Romania and Poland in such fields as security and defence. In his turn Premier Boc congratulated Komorowski for his being elected President of Poland and assured him of Romania's friendship and wish for cooperation at European level in order to achieve the common goals. 'Your visit to Bucharest is an extraordinary opportunity for consolidating the Romanian-Polish strategic partnership and for consulting with each other on subjects of common interest within the EU, also considering the upcoming Polish Presidency of the EU,' Boc concluded, Agerpres informs.
