BNR's Isarescu: 2015 stays euro-adoption target
Agerpres - 8 Noiembrie 2010
Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu declared on Friday on the public radio station that 2015 stays the deadline for the adoption of the euro.
'We kept 2015 as deadline for the adoption of the euro, but essential here is the manner whereby we will show that we can do this fiscal consolidation. You see how hard it is being done. We keep this target, inclusively for the powerful role as a catalyst euro's adoption has on keeping the consistency of macroeconomic policies,' said Mugur Isarescu.
The central bank governor believes that after two years of crisis, Romania should know that 'macroeconomic education is not just a fad.'
'One conclusion I came to and which I also explained to our foreign partners is that macroeconomic education is not a fad. It is true that neither in the West people do not know exactly what the meaning of 'procyclical' is, what a structural deficit is, but the sense of macroeconomic balances and especially the importance of macroeconomic stability are part of national culture, particularly in Europe,' said Isarescu.
