Energy and research, main areas of interest for Romanian-Cypriot cooperation

Romanian and Cypriot authorities in the economic field have established the key areas of interest for the cooperation between the two states, which are energy and research - innovation, announced the Permanent Secretary with the Office of Planning, George Georghiou, on Friday, on the occasion of the signing of the Protocol of the Romanian-Cypriot Inter-governmental Committee.
'Following our talks, we have established the key areas of interest for the collaboration between the two countries for the next period. They are energy, bio-fuels utilization. As well, two new items were added, research - and innovation and the implementation of joint projects by using structural funds, 'said George Georghiou.
The Protocol of the Romanian-Cypriot Inter-governmental Commission for economic, industrial and technical cooperation was signed on Friday in the framework of the 14th session of this Commission in Bucharest.
The document was signed by the Commission co-presidents, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy, Károly Borbély, for Romania, and the Permanent Secretary with the Office of Planning, George Georghiou, for Cyprus. 'In the first six months of 2010, trade relations between Romania and Cyprus have amounted to 82 million euros, up by 35 percent compared to same period of 2009. In 2009, as an effect of the economic crisis, the commercial exchanges decreased to 133 million euros. Romania exported mainly vegetable products, chemicals and equipment', said Secretary of State Károly Borbély. Cypriot companies investments in Romania amount to 1.7 million euros. A number of 4,700 Cypriot companies operate in Romania.
