Declaration on EU Strategy for Danube Region was adopted at Parliament Palace on Monday

The declaration on the EU Strategy for the Danube Region was adopted in Bucharest, at the Parliament Palace, on Monday, on the sidelines of the Danube Summit.
The above-mentioned document was signed by Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.Through this document, all EU member states are invited to support the Danube Strategy implementation.
The declaration shows that the signatory states reiterate their firm commitment to finalize, adopt and implement the European Strategy for the Danube Region, as well as the importance of this strategy for navigation and energy inter-connectivity, environment protection, water resources preservation and risk management, strengthening of the socioeconomic development, as well as of the institutional capacity in the region.
The signatory states also support the strengthening of the cooperation with the non-EU member states in the region for a more coherent implementation of the European principles and values.
At the same time, the document mentioned before points out the necessity for the Strategy's programmes to be perceived as a connected means of meeting the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy, underlining the signatories' commitment to make the Danube Strategy into an efficient instrument for implementing the Europe 2020 Strategy.
The said document also includes an invitation to the international financial institutions to contribute to the implementation of the projects in the Action Plan by using their specific instruments and by using the technical assistance.
The signatories of the declaration speak about a better absorption of the structural and cohesion funds, which are available for the Danube region, as well as of the pre-accession funds and the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument.
They underline the European Commission's role in offering strategic coordination, support and consultancy for the Strategy's implementation, as well as the importance of a closer cooperation between the Commission's experts and the coordinators of the main pillars of the Strategy.
The declaration adopted in Bucharest by the representatives of the governments in the eight countries mentioned above is open to another six countries, which are not EU members, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine, Agerpres reports.
