Ambassador Alexander Churilin about Romanian-Russian relations
ACTMedia - 10 Noiembrie 2010
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bucharest, Alexander Churilin, believes that ''the restoration of mutual trust and mutual respect'' is the main prerequisite for ''warmer'' Romanian-Russian relations.
'We must eliminate prejudices remains, which, sometimes accidentally, still hamper our relations',' the Russian diplomat told Agerpres in exclusivity.
The Ambassador also sustained the need to restore the Romanian-Russian relations 'not only via traditional interaction channels'.' ''Not only via governments and administration structures, but also through universities, schools, and community organizations. They must blend in the fabric of collaboration and mutual trust, which were known to every child in the Orthodox Romania and Orthodox Russia. We live in a new world of information, where people move more quickly, young people study abroad, the Internet has virtually linked home to home. We need to attract to this larger process of interaction what we previously called 'large masses of people'', explained Alexander Churilin.
A third key factor identified by the Russian Ambassador is the 'raising of the economic interaction at a new level'', as well as to support the 'initiative and entrepreneurial skills of those really wishing to invest'. Alexander Churilin also said that in the past 20 years, a number of Romanian industrial branches have disappeared from the Russian market. 'Romanian furniture has now become a rarity. I no longer find in Moscow pharmacies Romanian products. From youth I remember how popular the Romanian wine was. I know that we have cooperated well in the aviation field, as well'', pinpointed the Russian diplomat.
He noted, however, that there are encouraging examples of how Romanian traditional products re-enter the Russian market, and that ''not only the traditional forms of cooperation are significant, but also new ones that allow us to use the full potential that we have.''
'Romanians come to the Russian market with new types of economic activities. We have the recent example of a businessman in Constanta, who has won a contract to construct an underwater gas pipeline to Sochi, worth 150 million dollars''.
Speaking about concrete ways of cooperation between Romanian and Russian businessmen, Ambassador Churilin pleaded for ''the establishment of joint ventures and cooperation in production, the creation of joint ventures in third countries'.The diplomat said he carried out ''open discussions on the economic relations in the broadest sense of the word'' with Romanian businessmen.
Referring to the contribution of the state authorities to sustaining this effort of the two countries' investors, Alexander Churilin said: ''Naturally that we, the state bureaucracy, must support both the social and the economic dialogue because we have the necessary tool, namely the Joint Inter-governmental Commission for Technical-Scientific and Economic Cooperation - and we have the task to give a new impetus to these activities. At the same time, we must encourage the non-governmental dialogue without waiting for people or civic organizations to take action on their own. But after that dialogue starts, the bureaucracy has to sidestep, not to obstruct the natural interaction''.
The Russian Ambassador expressed his confidence that ''there are many people in Romania who understand the importance of developing relations with the Russian Federation.''
These statements were made by the Russian official at the end of a two-day visit, paid on Thursday and Friday, to Bacau County at the invitation of the County Council, the Institution of the Prefect and Bacau branch of the Romanian-Russian Friendship Association.
