Eurostat: Romania's October annual inflation, highest in EU

Romania had in October 2010 the biggest year-on-year inflation rate among the 27 EU states - 7.9%, while the year-on-year inflation rate in the EU stood at 2.3% and at 1.9% in the eurozone, according to a revised estimate published on Tuesday by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).
Lowest year-on-year inflation rates were recorded in Ireland (minus 0.8%), Latvia (0.9%) and Slovakia (1.0%). In October 2010, versus September 2010, the year-on-year inflation rose in 15 member states, Romania included, fell in five member states and remained stable in six member states.
Romania ranks first in the EU also in terms of median price rise in the past 12 months (October 2009 - October 2010), with 5.5% rise, followed by Hungary (4.9%) and Greece (4.3%).
According to the data centralized by the National Statistics Institute (INS), the monthly median inflation rate in the first ten months of 2010 stood at 0.7% in October, with year-on-year inflation rate reaching 7.88%. From September, consumer price index rose 0.55%.
Median price rise per total in the past 12 months (November 2009 - October 2010) from the previous 12 months (November 2008 - October 2009) established based on consumer price index stands at 5.6% and that established based on the harmonized index of consumer price stands at 5.5%.
At the start of this month, BNR increased inflation forecast for 2010 to 8.2%. BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu announced the 2010 inflation would stand at 8.2%, by 3.4% above the 2009 value and up 0.4% versus that announced in August this year.
