Ambassador Henri Paul: French investors want more transparency in economic policies
ACTMedia - 17 Noiembrie 2010
French ambassador in Bucharest Henri Paul said on Tuesday in Ordaea that French investors, the same as other investors, want more visibility of the economic policies, market transparency, a stable currency and not too high taxes.
'What I believe is missing is more transparency and more visibility of economic policies. When there is more transparency and more visibility investments will be boosted. And yet, what I can see is a continual interest of the French investors in Romania. There is no lack of interest here,' Henri Paul told Agerpres.
He said he cannot measure the pace of French investment growth in Romania, but his contacts indicate that French investors continue to be interested in Romania, although this is a less stable time as Romania is still facing a recession.
'As you all know, Romania is still facing a continuing crisis and so the local purchasing power has dropped and all the enterprises operating on the consumer segment, such as Carrefour and Bricostore, have to slow down investments. This is not the case for industry or services,' the ambassador told a news conference.
Henri Paul, accompanied by deputy adviser on cultural cooperation Jean Baptiste Cuzin; Director of the French Cultural Centrer of Cluj-Napoca Bernard Houliat, and officer Stephan Debonne in charge with relations with the French National Gendarmerie started on Monday a visit to the western Romanian county of Bihor.Official data indicate that there are 98 companies operating in Bihor County with French shareholders.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed education facilities in Oradea and the tentative reintroduction of Romanian-French bilingual classes at the 'Emmanuil Gojdu' National College and the 'Mihai Eminescu' National College in Oradea, beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. Also, the two officials voiced their opinion that it would be appropriate for the local administration to organize in May next year a seminar on economic, cultural and tourist cooperation, together with the French Cultural Center in Cluj-Napoca (north-west of Bucharest).
Ambassador Henri-Paul also expressed willingness regarding the promotion of the Eurobusiness Industrial Park in Oradea among French business people interested to invest in this region.
