The Netherlands opens honorary consulate in Cluj
ACTMedia - 17 Noiembrie 2010
The Netherlands has, since Saturday, an honorary consulate in Cluj-Napoca (center-west), its opening being marked by the presence of the Dutch ambassador, Tanya van Goole.
Honorary Consul of The Netherlands in Cluj-Napoca is Walterus Reijers and the consulate will serve counties in the north-western Romania.
Ambassador Tanya van Goole, Honorary Consul Walterus Reijers and head of the economic department of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Bucharest, Hans Smaling, had a meeting with the prefect, Florin Stamatian and the president of Cluj County Council (CC), Alin Tise, during which the officials discussed issues on expansion of cooperation between the two sides.
'It was a valuable exchange of ideas, but starting with a handicap - let's say, for us - what to ask them when they are the most powerful investors, and it is enough to say that UPC and ING are Dutch companies? The Netherlands is the largest foreign investor in Romania, it owns over 16 percent - over four billion euros invested in Romania by Dutch companies', stated Florin Stamatian.
He said that expanding relations between the two sides in the academic field, as well as in tourism, have been approached. In turn, the president of CJ Cluj, Alin Tise, expressed hope that in future a flight between Cluj and Amsterdam can be inaugurated.
'Our desire is that next year we will manage to start a direct flight to Amsterdam and this will greatly help the Dutch investors, who will be able to go directly to Cluj. The fact that the consulate will help us to serve the entire region will also help us to promote a regional development policy. I also said that there are large ongoing investments in the county and that we expect the Dutch investors' presence here, 'said Alin Tise.
