Romania's trade deficit at EUR 911 mn in Nov. 2010

Romania's FOB/CIF trade deficit hit 3,913.2 million lei (911.3 million euros) in November 2010, up 210.1 million lei (48.1 million euros) year-on-year; compared with October 2010, in November exports advanced by 3.4 pct (expressed in domestic lei) and by 2.8 pct (expressed in euro), while imports increased by 7 pct expressed in lei and 6.4 pct in euro, respectively, reads a release of the National Statistics Institute (INS).
INS estimates that in November 2010 FOB exports amounted to 15,563.2 million lei (3,621.8 million euros) and CIF imports stood at 19,476.4 million lei (4,533.1 billion euros). This evolution shows that exports increased 31.2 pct expressed in lei (30.9 pct expressed in euro, respectively), whereas imports increased 25.1 pct expressed in lei (24.9 pct expressed in euro, respectively), compared to the same month of 2009.
November's monthly advance for exports was 3.4 pct expressed in lei (2.8 pct in euro), whereas imports increased from the previous month 7.0 pct expressed in lei (6.4 pct in euro), according to INS estimates.
Under these circumstances, Romania ran a FOB-CIF trade deficit of 3,913.2 million lei (911.3 million euros) in November 2010, by 210.1 million lei (48.1 million euro) higher than in November 2009.
Jan - Nov 2010 FOB exports amounted to 143,016.8 million lei (33,999.0 million euro) whereas CIF imports stood at 179,300.9 9 million lei (42,638.7 million euros). In comparison with the interval Jan. 1 - Nov. 30, 2009, exports increased by 26.1 pct in figures expressed in lei (27.2 pct expressed in euro) and imports increased by 18.5 pct expressed in lei (+19.5 pct in euro).
The FOB-CIF eleven-month trade deficit was 36,284.1 million lei (8,639.7 million euros), by 1,674.9 million lei (317.2 million euros) less than the deficit registered over the interval Jan. 1 - Nov. 30, 2009.As for Romania's intra-community trade exchanges carried out over Jan. - Nov. 2010, they stood at 104,063.6 million lei (24,723.8 million euro) worth of outgoing goods and at 130,739.5 million lei (31,064.8 million euro) worth of incoming goods, accounting for 72.8 pct of total exports and 72.9 pct of total imports.
In November 2010, Romania's intra-community exports were 23.8 pct higher (expressed in euro) y-o-y, while exports to non-EU countries advanced 37.2 pct from the same reference; intra-community imports expressed in euro increased 18.7 pct, while those from non-EU countries advanced 21.7 pct.
INS mentions that the difference between the dynamics computed based on the values expressed in lei and those expressed in euro was determined by the variation of the leu-euro exchange rate over the analyzed period compared with the corresponding period of previous year.
The major groups of commodities delivered abroad and acquired from foreign countries, respectively, over the period Jan. 1 - Nov. 30, 2010 are machines and transport equipment (accounting for 42.3 pct of exports and 35.2 pct of imports, respectively) and other manufactured goods (33.7 pct of exports and 31.2 pct of imports, respectively), INS informs. Raw materials and supplies account for 6.9 pct of exports and 3.5 pct of imports, respectively. Beverages and tobacco account for 7 pct of the goods imported to Romania, and 6.2 pct of Romania's inbound goods. As for fossil fuels and lubricants, this category accounts for 5.2 pct of exports and 9.7 pct of imports, respectively.
