Romania's car market decreases 18.5% in 2010

The registrations of new cars decreased in December 2010 by 3.91% versus December 2009, having reached 14,507 units, while the car market decreased 18.5% to 94,541 vehicles in entire 2010, according to official data from the Driver's Licenses and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV) made public on Thursday.
Thus, out of the total, the best-selling car makes were: Dacia - 3,364 units (22.06% rise versus December 2009), Volkswagen - 1,067 units (+45.57%), Opel - 1,039 units (+ 73.75%) and Renault - 928 units (+15.57%).
December 2010 saw the best car sales versus December 2009, up by 12,472 units, and 10.24% more car registrations than in December 2009, when 11,313 units sold were registered.
The car market decreased by 18.51% throughout 2010, from 116,020 new cars registered in the first 12 months of 2009 to 94,541 in 2010.
The ranking of the best-selling car makes over January - December 2010 is topped by Dacia, with 30,761 units (-14.72% compared with 2009), followed by Skoda - with 8,030 units (-13.23%), Renault - 7,857 units (-12.73%) and Volkswagen - 7,807 units (-18.08%).
The following car makes saw growth in sales throughout 2010: BMC, with Morgan range - with three units (50% versus 2009), BMW - 1,754 units (+26.37%), Ferrari - 20 units (+25%), Chevrolet - 4,897 units (+24.64%), Opel - 6,675 units (+8.73%) and Porsche - 125 units (+19.05%).
According to DRPCIV, the rarest car makes sold in Romania in December 2010 were: Chrysler, Dodge, Lancia and Lexus (3 units), Cadillac and Saab (2 units each), Ferrari, Geely, Iveco, Lada, Quattro Rolls Royce and SsangYong (one unit each).
