Mobius : Romania is as attractive to investors as Uganda or Botswana

Romania is a marginal market from the point of view of investors, who do not make the difference between Romania and Uganda and Botswana, Mark Mobius, the head of Franklin Templeton, the administrator of Proprietatea Fund said in an interview to ProTV and incont.ro.
« Romania is a marginal market. Even if it is a member of the EU this does not mean muc from the point of view of the capital market. Look at Greece ! They have got bigger problems with their debts than an emerging market » Mobius said.
The head of Franklin Templeton, the administrator of Proprietatea Fund brings arguments in favour of this opinon by referring to the Romanian legislation which keeps the investors at a disadvantage.
« There are many examples where the government does not seem to understand how important it is to draw foreign investors and to treat them fairly and honestly » Mobius said.
Speaking about economic growth, he considers that a percentage of 2% is not sufficient for a country as Romania. « If Romania wants to advance, to develop economically, then the development should be 5-7% annually. But for this you need investments. And how could you convince an investor to come to Romania when there is not legal system to trust ? « Mobius asks.
According to him, investors feel they are cheated, and the Romanian government should take the example of those in Singapore or Hong Kong.
